Working on the East Metro upgrade route. Everything seemed to start off ok, but now after making a activity, and starting the act, I get a pop up saying,

Failed to find sms file

File:MLT_welded.sms

After trying about 5 times to delete the pop up, (It keeps disappearing and reappearing) it finally disappears and the act starts, but after a save and restart I get the pop up again. I must be doing something wrong in the process of making the act. Any suggestions? Thanks

Bert

Unless you have access to the MLT (Mapleleaf Tracks) route that has the sound file, or can find one that you can substitute, there isn't much you can do unless you want to get into the route and delete the sound trigger.

I had never seen any thing about a patch. I downloaded the route the 1st day it was issued. I found it on Rich Garber site. I installed the patch and tried to run the act. Still get the pop up. What I will do is delete the act files and make a new one and see if I still get the pop up.

I do not understand Chowahara message about the sound file in MLT. The new EM Route is a Rich Garber creation. Maybe he used part of MLT files.

Any way I will try another one and see if the patch fixed it. Thanks

Well I have reinstalled the route and patch over the existing. Run Switch List Gen. as usual. Make a act and when I start it I get that same pop up about File:MLT_welded.sms. I am sure I am doing the same each time. Time for bed now. Will try again in the morning.

Thanks for the fix. I think maybe I am getting to old to keep up with this game. 83 +

When I installed the original file cefx2ba2 it said to load to train simulator, which I did. The patch has no instructions. The patch is all wag files. I installed the wag files to TS. They are now in TS. I added them to Trainset. They evidently did not go to a folder. They are now at the end of trainset list.

What I cannot figure out is that I made 2 acts which worked fine. After making the 3rd act. I get the darn pop up about the missing file.

Looking at the original file , it says to load to train simulator. Then it said to use activity editor or conbuilder to add the cars to the sims. This I am not familiar with. Evidently the original folder went to train simulator (Not sure) , but the patch does not seem to go to the correct place. Any suggestions? Thanks

Bert

Bert,

If the generated activity does not use this car, then the error doesn't show up. So I guess that the first two activities did not call for this car, whereas the third did.

I will try this again. The one sent hours ago does not appear.

I finally had the sense to copy the patch files to cefx2ba2. Tried # 3 act and do not get the pop up. Looks like we won the fight. Thanks a lot.

Guess I didn't quite zip them so it added the folder. So for the untrained, unzip into the cefx2ba2 folder to use.

Well I guess I spoke to soon. I just made 3 acts and again on the 3rd act I get the pop up.

I wonder if there is a way to find out what car or cars that require the mlt-welded2.sms and how I can find where to install the sms file.

I contacted MLT and Andy sent me the 3 welded sms files.

If I knew what cars Activity Generator required the sms files, I could install it. Still grasping at straws. Thanks

Bert

I think all you have to do is to put the .sms files in the SOUND folder under the Train Simulator folder. You should not need to edit the car files.

By golly you are right.

I put all 3 welded sms files in the train sim sound folder and ran the 2 acts that had the pop ups. Both worked.

Although I have been using computers since dos 3, I just know enough to be dangerous. Thanks a million.
