Just an update on my progress.

I have all the cars placed and action events defined.  There are approximately 420 sidings that have cars assigned to them.  The Activity CSV file has been edited for car types.  Currently, I am working on the Track CSV file.  This one will take the most effort since we need to assign regions to this one.  The number of sidings makes this a daunting task, to say the least.  I have only about an hour a day for this project, so I figure it will take me the better part of the coming week to finish this part up.  I hope to have something to test by mid June.

Thanks for your update and work on this, Jim!  The GN HiLine is similar in scope so I feel your pain -- but it will be great to have both of these available!

The basic Eastbound (The general direction from Hobart to Barstow) template is complete minus the traffic.  I've been running some tests to make sure I have the cars placed correctly.  I don't think I'll be able to check every siding, but should get a good percentage done.  With the maze of tracks, a work order with 10 or 15 setouts and pickups can take 2 hours to complete!  The Westbound (Barstow to Hobart) should be completed shortly.  This one will be easy compared to the work that had to be done on the Eastbound.  As for rolling stock.  I have used some that Steve and Norman have used in some of their templates.  I also added some from Train-Sim that fit some of the industries better than just the default cars.  There were some issues with the default lumber cars not wanting to go thru some of the curves.

Both templates have been completed!!  I am currently doing some testing and will begin writing the documentation.  I'm lookiing for a couple of volunteers to run some switching activities before it gets posted for everyone.  The switching opportunities are endless with over 400 sidings.  PM or email me if you are interested.

It says on the Templates page:

"Update: we have found that some of the sidings aren't named, or, are not long enough to hold any railcars.  Don Klaebel and Jim Meindl are working on an update that corrects the siding length issue.  This template release will be delayed until that has been done.  In fact Don and/or Jim may decide to create this template for us!"

If you are almost ready to release a template does this mean that there is a patch comming for the Cajon Route to fix the siding issues? I have not heard anything about this.

There will be an update for Cajon Pass posted in the near future.  Between Don and myself, we have corrected the siding lengths, named the sidings that did not have names, and have added mileposts to the route.  I had just asked for and received permission from Patrick Wise to go ahead with the update.  There are roughly 400+ sidings to switch cars on. Craig Kawahara's map will really be helpful.  There are some areas that you could get lost in with the high cluster of sidings and switches.

Both templates have been completed and are now in the final testing stage.  So far so good. We'll give this one a bit more testing in beta, with another set of eyes, before sending it off to Steve for posting.  Craig Kawahara is currently updating his map for a special Activity Generator edition.  This map will add names to the sidings that previously were without identification and add mileposts to aid in creating activities and help in finding your way around this extensive route.  Special thanks goes to Craig for agreeing to help with this project.

The final package will be submitted to Steve later this evening.  For my first submitted template, this has been one major undertaking.  It has 30 paths with approximately 400 sidings to switch.  It's currently set up for AG3, but I will probably update it to AG4 a bit later.  I have some ideas for some possible passenger car switching LAUPT and San Bernardino stations.  Thanks to Craig Kawahara for providing a special Cajon Pass Route map for our enhanced version, which will be part of the package.  Thanks also to Don Klaebel and Denis Gionet for beta testing this massive route.

Enjoy!!!!!

I have posted this template today.  I have to say it is a real opus of a work!  Lots of documentation, a custom map from Craig Kawahara, additional sidings added -- a very detailed template.  My thanks and compliments to Jim Meindl, Don Klaebel, Denis Gionet and Craig Kawahara for making this template a reality!

Missing files.

I have to apologize to everyone who might have downloaded the Cajon Pass Template.  It seems I forgot to include the two SWLACT*.csv files in the zip file.  I have sent the correction off to Steve for replacement.  If anyone would like to have them before the file gets posted, please email me directly and I'll get them to you.  Sorry for the issue and thanks to Don Klaebel for pointing this out to me.

HI Jim. I am getting an error that reads like this. Error in load screen widget file :activity dat. I get this as soon as I click on drive a train and freezes up. Is there something in the template that I didn't copy into the right place. I copied the route off my disc plus the up date which ran ok but when I added the template I end up with that error. Thanks for your help . Greg. ( This is a mini route)

Hi Greg,

I'm not that familiar with mini routes. I don't use them.  I don't think it has anything to do with the template.  Check to make sure that the file activity.dat can still be found in the directory c:\microsoft games\train simulator\gui\widgets.  There was a thread at TS that mentioned that this file sometimes goes missing or gets deleted.  If its missing you might have to extract it from the original MSTS Disks or email me and I'll zip up mine for you.

Thanks Jim. Out of 65 routes in mini form this is the first time this has happened so I had no idea what I was looking for. I just coppied the gui folder from the master install and now things are back to normal. Thanks again. Greg.

Hi Jim,

I can't seem to find the file ne3bayhp.zip at train-sim.com. Could you point me in the right direction of this file?

Hi Brian,

I just keyed ne3bayhp.zip at Train-Sim.  It was able to find it.  It is also listed as MSTS Northeastern 100 Ton Hopper Mega-Pack. I hope that helps.  Try using ne* to search by file name and set the sort to file size in desending order.  It's a 10 MB file so it should be on top of the list.

Hi Greg,

Glad I was able to help out.  I read some stories about things like this happening.
