Skyline User's Forum _ Templates _ New Zealand's Raurimu Spiral route

Posted by: dgionet May 24 2013, 07:59 PM

Hi to all,

A few weeks ago, Moe Smith (dispatcher) had made me a request to have a template set for the Raurimu Spiral route. Earlier, Trevor Burt, the route's maker has agreed to have Moe update the route by adding names to some unnamed sidings. Moe has updated the route and has sent me the update to allow a template to be made. Thanks Moe!

Since, I have finished this week the template and have just started to test the templates.

It doesn't have many sidings to work with (close to thirty), compared to other templates I have done. However, the scenery is worth to have the route downloaded. New Zealand is a very beautiful country and will try to show the best possible of this area. The route is also the site of the world famous Raumiru Spiral tunnel located mid-way along the route. Later I will post some shots when I reach the area. The route is located between Taumarunui (in the North) and Ohakune, in the South end on the Northern Island, about mid-way between Auckland and Wellington. It is my first route template for a route made in New Zealand.

The templates are NB and SB and also LOCALS template with two return paths, on both sides of the spiral tunnel.

Here are the first shots of the route starting at Taumarunui and going south. I am getting close to Ohwango and further to the spiral tunnel area.

Additional images including some inside the Raurimu Spiral area. Also included is the Google shot of the actual Spiral tunnel area to give you an idea of its configuration.

Hi to all,

Activities have been successfull for both the NB and SB templates and am including other images taken from both SLG-generated acts.

It is recommended to save your act just before engaging on some work with cars. The user may encounter a red signal after working some cuts on both sides of any red signals despite no close oncoming traffic. In such event, the user may toggle the signalling to permissive, Once the work done, return the signalling to its original state. As you have noticed, the engines are painted in what is being referred as fruit salad livery. There are two traffic trains on each template. This may change to three upon further examination.

Downloads are minimal, only six so far from the same site and the link to each download will be written in the readme file.

On the remaining template, the LOCALS, since there is no traffic for both return paths, it will be suggested to toggle the signalling to permissive throughout the whole duration of the act to avoid surprises with any red signal.

Hi Ted,

It has been accidentally placed after the Redding route and the Raton III route template but it is there.

I think this is something for Steve to answer. Your folder is different than mine. It is beyond me.
