Hello to all,

I have started today work on the Australian NSWGR Southern Highlands (NSWSH). The work actually started a week earlier with information provided by Brian Bere-Streeter on the operations along the NSWSH. I have taken the time to read the provided information and have finally made some choices.I have yet to send to Brian what has been done so he can give his suggestions in the choice of rail stock or usage of the sidings, traffic along the line etc... that should be done in a couple of days. As some of you remember, the Illawara2 route is still among the most realistic templates and Brian was a big help in making it this way.

The NSW Southern Highlands will be my very first all-steam template. A few days earlier, Brian have sent me a confirmation of a new available download that would be a key element to the route. The NSWGR Class 55 steam loco is considered "home" in the NSWSH. Other than the neighbouring class 53 engine, other engine types were rare along its tracks.

However, I have yet to master the technique of driving a steam engine. I am a poor "steamer". On my first attempts, I have blown a fuse half-way into the test run. Today I had a blown back inner firebox, probably during some drive on a graded area. I have been reading about TS.com FAQ about Firing a steam loco and about some driving instructions. I believe it will eventually come with some more practice. What about your experience with steam?

The MSTS NSWSH route, south of Sydney, is a mostly graded double-track mainline and is about 30 miles long. From Picton, the line goes South to Moss Vale through steep and long grades and short tunnels.

It has close to 35 sidings and is expected to have SB and NB templates. So far only 12 downloads are required. It may change with Brian's suggestion. Time will tell.

In the meantime, here are the first images of my first AG-Generated activity, taken at Moss vale, going NB.

Will update later as the work progresses

Hi Denis,
This is great news! I have purposely kept the NSW Southern Highlands route installed just for this Template. The route is very well detailed and really evokes not only that part of the country but the period it is set in.
Thank you for your contiuned efforts with not only this Template but the many many more you have already produced.
I shall be keenly watching this space for the Templates release.
Kind regards,
Damo biggrin.gif

Hi to all,

After receiving from Brian Bere-Streeter suggestions about my first draft template package sent to him, changes were made to bring more realism into the package.

The templates are now finished and am having some help in testing the package. I have found out today the MSTS feature to have an automatic fireman and this will make things easier for me in driving one of these to destination.

Despite the short length of the route, there will be lots of AI traffic, Brian wrote to me that in peak times, trains were moving with intervals as low as 10-15 minutes between each train. The train intervals in the template will be between 20 and 35 minutes.

I will be probably sending a final package to Brian for final approval. I will take some more time to test the templates before and will wait for report from my tester of the route.

In the meantime here are some new shots of AG-generated activities.

Going Northbound

Starting work in Picton for SB work

Steam and more steam

Pickup in Bargo for SB

A few of the tunnels inside the route

Preparing to enter Bowral for the last pickup before final destination in Moss Vale

Entering Moss Vale

Will update later

Gidday Denis,
Great to hear about the update for the NSW Southern Highlands route. I'd be happy to help test it if you need someone else to take a gander at it.
I'll keep an eye out for this one. It might be worth mentioning over at Australian MSTS Workshops so others might look at getting Activity Generator.
Thanks again for your excellent efforts.

Hi Damo,

Got the same idea yesterday and have posted last night at the Australian MSTS Workshops.

The link:

Got a mail from Brian Bere-Streeter this morning about a updated download (v2) of the class 53/55 player engines. Will make the changes later tonight

More to come

Hi Damo,

Are you still interested in giving it a shot in testing the template? If so, PM me with your E-mail coordinates. I'll send you the package.
