I've tried everything and followed all the directions for the update. I cant get anything to work. I've followed step by step with the users manual and always seem to end up with this error. I also noticed when I tried to update the crindy2 template to AG4 I still got the message that the template was another version. Now when I load the MSTS train editor I get an error saying error reading train database. for the consists. Oh and I've tried doing my own template with the LS&I but get the same error. Can someone help me with this? I have version 4.1.09

If you search these forums on the word "preamble", you will find several threads. This problem occurs when the preamble.dat file is missing. You must install the updates directly to the previous AG folder, not just copy files. Check out the threads, and if necessary, contact Steve directly via e-mail.

As for updating the CRIndy template to AG4, creating an update involves a lot of files, and probably not all the old files have been modified or the new files created. Likely you used the AG4 option to update the template, but did not revise the regions worked for the template paths. This is found by first clicking on the create and modify templates (csv files) button on the main AG menu, and then clicking on the set regions worked button on the next menu. The process of setting the regions worked will create a new file for that template. Be sure to do both the EB and WB templates. My intention is to eventually update all templates to AG4, but I have no idea when I will get to CRIndy.

Thanks for the reply, But I do have a question as to installation of the update. Its a zip file so I tried this 2 ways. I extracted it directly to the switchlist program and when that didnt work I extracted it to a seperate file and copied all the files over from there. Both ways I did the install provided the same results. Is there another way of doing it? As far as the Indy route, well I'm a big Conrail fan and will work on the advise you gave me to see if I cant get that updated. I'm retired so this gives me something to do.......

Thanks

What you did should have worked: either unzipping the file into your SwitchList Generator folder, or, unzipping it anywhere, and copying the files into that folder. It sounds like maybe you were upgrading from SwitchList Generator not Activity Generator. If so there is a whole different procedure to follow (not just downloading the zip file and copying the files). This is described at Updating SLG to AG

However since you are having so much trouble I will send you the link to the full program download in a private message. This will correct all your Activity Generator problems, hopefully that will also get the Conrail Indy template working as well.

Thanks and sorry about the trouble,

Steve

To convert a template involves a couple of steps, not just running the CSV file conversion routine but also creating a "Path Region Order" file. That file is what tells AG that this is an AG4 template, so until you've created that (using the "Set regions worked and order reached for paths" screen) the template will be treated as AG3.

Until you've had some experience creating templates, my advice is NOT to try and convert the template, just run the current template with AG4. Being an AG3 template it will run fine under AG4. You just need to be aware of the order in which the regions are reached -- which you'd have to know anyway if you were going to create the Path Region Order file needed to make this an AG4 template.

Thanks,

Steve

Please let me know if it does or doesn't! If it doesn't, I can troubleshoot with you live on line using a remote troubleshooting service I have. I have solved the more difficult problems that way.

Thanks,

Steve
