This also applies to the "Change Signals to Permissive" function. One user reported that he
got the "Good Backup", but not the "Successful Coversion" message, on both the signal and switch conversions. It turned out that with this particular route (the Conrail Indy 2 route), the track database (.tdb) and signal script file sigscr.dat were set up as READ ONLY, so, they could not be modified. This problem can be solved by using Windows to uncheck the "read only" flag on these files. This may be a problem with some other routes as well. You'll know if you have this problem because you'll see a "Successful Backup" message but never a "Successfully converted switches to manual" (or signals to permissive) message. Detailed instructions below: Ok, I figured out why the signals and switches wouldn't convert! Now I don't know if you NEED to convert them to run the template -- if you don't need to, it's better not to so as not to run afoul of AI traffic. Anyway the problem is, for some reason in this route the signal script file, sigscr.dat, is marked as "Read Only" (at least on my machine). So AG can't change it. You can override this behavior by locating the file sigscr.dat in your \Train Simulator\ROUTES\ConrailIndy 2 folder, right click on it and select properties. You'll see a screen that looks like this (click to expand): Uncheck the "Read-only" box, click "OK" and then AG will correctly convert it. For some reason min kept changing back to Read-only after converting it and restoring it. Do the same thing with ConrailIndy.tdb to convert the switches to manual. This was interesting, I will post this solution on the forum so it might help others. -------------------- Steve Davis
