The latest update to Activity Master is 1.5.6, get it on our Patches & Updates page at www.skylinecomputing.com or directly at http://www.skylinecomputing.com\ActMstr.zip.

No new features, but corrects some bugs reported by users.

A new version has been posted that fixes a compatibility issue with the latest version of Shape Viewer (v2). Get the update to v 1.5.7 on our Patches & Updates page or directly at http://www.skylinecomputing.com/AMUpdate.zip

Remember you'll need your original password to unzip the file.

I have posted an update to Activity Master on our Patches & Updates page. We are now at version 1.6.0. You can get the update, along with instructions as to how to install/apply it, on that page.

As activities get larger and more complex, they push the limits of our software. I received a complaint from a user recently about various run-time errors under Windows XP, and discovered another user had encountered the same thing. When an activity uses over 500 pieces of rolling stock (the one in question had 537) AND, the user has a great many replacements, we could get a run time error or overflow error as the potential replacement matrix exceeded 32767 (the limit for an Integer in the programming language I'm using). So I had to move away from Integers to Long Integers which can represent much larger numbers. This has resolved the overflow error sometimes seen.

Also the way the program used to work, if it encountered an error reading a .wag or .eng file in a user's TRAINSET folder, such as an improperly formatted or terminated file, the user would get an error "reading past the end of file" as the program read beyond the file in an attempt to get the information it was looking for. While our program can't read bad files even now (you may be familiar with the old saying, "Garbage In, Garbage Out"), it handles these much better. Basically each file is read within it's own subroutine, so if there are any errors at all in reading that file, the program will abort trying to read the file but will continue processing other files rather than shutting down. If you want to know what files may have been skipped because of problems like this, just turn check the "generate debug file" box and open the activity you are wanting to modify. After you exit AM, you'll see a file in \Program Files\ActivityMaster that goes through all of the steps the program took and lists any errors or skipped files.

You can get the update on our Patches and Updates page or directly at http://www.skylinecomputing.com/AMUpdate.zip

Please let me know if you continue to get errors, and if so, with which activities and routes.

Thanks,

Steve

Bad news Steve,

I tried using the latest AM on a act. from TS. call Bnsfethansol3ml and have several errors with it. First off I tried just changing out the cars that weren't on my drive after identifying car types. This resulted in an error message saying I was trying to replace a car or engine that I didn't have a proper replacement for this car and I should use the "replace with specific list.

Next I tried running AM again and this time I asked for the specific list replacement mode and I immediately got the big run error overflow 6. So I restored the act and used the specific list which meant replacing about two-thirds of the cars and when I hit the replace cars buttom I got the message about I didn't have a sutiable replacement for a c44-9ai engine and it would try to use a sd70 eng. if it could. I clicked the ok buttom and got another error message which escape me at the moment and then it shut down and so did I.

This act had 280 or so unknown cars when ran AM. I have over 1100 engines and over 3700 cars on the my drive and AM can't find a replacement?

David,

I'm afraid you still have the old version or perhaps a fix I attempted which really wasn't quite ready yet (sorry). I posted a new version of the program which is version 1.6.0, posted just yesterday morning, around 11:00 am Central time. To add to the confusion, I briefly had another version 1.6.0 up there and took it down almost immediately, so if your program says you're running 1.6.0 and still having problems it is likely you pulled down this incorrect version before I was able to pull it from our site. Fixing this was a difficult challenge. I thought I had it solved but I just checked it using a "standard" activity. Then I posted the update (I shouldn't have). Then I checked the Patey activity, still got errors, pulled the update off the site and continued to work on it. I have now successfully modified those activities with no errors. To know for certain that you have the correct version, the date/time on the zip file should be 2/11/2010 10:38 am. /the date/time of the executable should be the same except 10:36 am. Once you have that installed please restore the original activity (using AM or by just re-downloading it) and then re-run AM on it and see if it works. (If you don't restore the original, you could be compounding errors the old version of AM created.

I have attempted to answer your email directly but am having some email problems on my end.

Thanks,

Steve
