Folks,

I tried making an activity earlier today for the Niagara Corridor, and it's causing some problems. The first problem was that the game threw a fit about an error in line three of DundasPlayer.con. I took a look at it and well, there's nothing that I can spot wrong. To be on the safe side, I resaved the thing in ConBuilder.

Problem solved? Wrong. When I clicked on "DRIVE A TRAIN", the game locks up, the drive activity light pulses, and three or four minutes go by before MSTS decides that it wants to quit.

I think the problem is in the activity file, because ConBuilder locks up when I try to check the generated activity. What else can I look at as the source of trouble?

First, are you sure you're running the activity you generated and not the template itself?  Don't run the activity with the word "template" in it or try to open it, these will often crash MSTS AE and probably other utilities.

If that's not it, try and generate a new activity, give it a name you'll remember when asked to save it, and then if you still have a problem please email the consist .con file to us.

Also Norm Beveridge who wrote this template monitors this forum and he'll offer some help too I'm sure.

Thanks, sorry about the problem.

I don't get the option of selecting an activity. The start screen is as far as I can get.

If I try opening the activity in the AE, MSTS throws a fit and phones home. I can open other activities in the AE without trouble, though.

I generated a new activity and managed to crash upon route selection in MSTS.

Opening anything in the AE says I'm missing '2007.con' and 'SLG-DundasWB.con'. I think the 2007 is related to the first bad activity; I named that consist "2007 NC Westbound Possible.con" without any sort of underscores.

I've now stashed everything related to the SLG template etc in the /ACTIVITIES directory in a temporary directory, and the route runs just fine. I'm going to reinstall the template and start completely over to see what happens.

NW 611,

The PM you sent won't open.  Not sure why.  Please try again.

I can't find any errors in the Dundas consists.

Mr. Beveridge:

I'm getting an error of

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

Permission denied

/forums/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 244

when I try to send the PM. Maybe that's affecting it. Anyways, here's the text of the original PM:

Would you mind to look at an activity for me and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I can package the thing up and send it to you at your convenience. In a nutshell, I depart Aldershot headed for Hamilton but find myself veering up to the right, away from where I need to be going. There's a reverse point that keeps floating in front of me, but I can't reverse anywhere due to there being a train blocking the line at one place or the other.

A look at the track diagram PDF availabe at train-sim (Craig K's release) suggests that I need to back down the other main and then enter Hamilton yard so that I can access the yard tracks. However, the switches won't cooperate and neither will signals.

I thought about changing the signals to permissive and the switches to manual, but I don't want to encounter a 60MPH intermodal going the opposite direction on my track. What am I doing wrong?

(Will send APK if you agree.)

It's entirely possible that I'm not smart enough to navigate the Niagara Corridor.
