Hi to everyone,
I have been away for quite a while. Over 2 1/2 years ago I was hit by a nasty PC virus that just about ruined everything in my PC and external HD. At that time my son was dealing with heart and kidney failure and Train Sim seemed unimportant. He is now waiting for a heart and kidney transplant.
I didn't know my 2014 PRR Template was no longer in the Template list. The PRR Template was the only thing I didn't lose because I had it stored on an online storage site. I also received a copy from Harlen in this forum.
For those who are unfamiliar with PRR Eastern route it is the largest route ever made. It took 10 men 6 years to create. It has 4500 miles of track, 2400 sidings, 87 yards and covers 3 Divisions and 5 Railroads (PRR-B&O-CNJ-LV-RDG).
I want to add to the Template Package with some new ideas I have come up with before I repost it. It now has 115 templates and I want to add 5 to 10 more. Right now it has very large files, Activities (.act, .Pro, .ctp, .cvs and .tdb)-576, Consists-171, Traffic-121, Paths-336 and Services-786.
When ready I will send a screen shot and a link for downloading it. It will be a complete Mini-Route with everything except the Valley Pass Payware. You will need the PRR 1950 set, the PRR#3 set and the Troop set.

Thanks for the update Pete.

Quite some large numbers here. Did some exploring on the PRR recently. With OR now, running the PRR will be more performant and stable than during the MSTS only era.

Thanks again for your efforts

Check out TS.com....Vince is updating the PRR ER to correct track in at least one area, maybe more, which will probably negate existing activities. He is also removing phantom switches. There is a dedicated forum for his efforts. His update will use the fix06 version of the public beta.

Thanks Craig,
I sent a PM to Vince to see how this will effect my Template. I posted the template as a mini route to avoid any problems. I have the route as it was sent to me from the developers as it was being created. I seems many people are getting different version when they install it.
I have never has any problems running it. At 75 years old starting over is a nightmare.

Hi Pete.

I've prepped myself with a clean installation of the PRR ER Fix 06 cuz' from the forum post, the TDB has changed. Just an info in case you do not have it, the public beta PRRFIX06 (with tdb dated 02/11/2011 48,241 KB) is also known as beta 16 for the cd version, if my info is correct. This is based on the readme files files found in the downloads of PRR ER at TS.com. The forum post states that prrfix07 (tbd dated 07/14/2012, 47,919 KB) will not work with Vince's rebuild.

By-the-by, it's good to see the some familiar names posting here.

Hi Christopher:

Sorry for the late reply, life's been crazy. I want to thank you and Valley Pass for what you have contributed to all these templates.

There is an update for the PRR Eastern being worked on that will correct a lot of errors on the route. It will update the route from fix6. Fix7 caused errors and is no longer available. This too is possibly being worked on in the future.

Once the update is released I will update the template with all the changes. This will require redoing a lot of the template package but it will improve everything.

The same rolling stock will be used and the same Valley Pass sets will be required.

Thanks again,

Pete

Hello to all,

Following health issues regarding Pete, he asked me to take over the PRR project and have accepted to take on the challenge. I have no idea how things will turn out. I will be posting later with any developments and details as it develops.

Hello to all,

Since taking over the PRR Template mega project, I have been taking time to determine the proper downloads and studying the different railroads and their tracks.

The route itself is being beta tested and awaiting release in the future in the Trainsim site. As you know, the PRR includes trackage from the PRR, Baltimore & Ohio (B&O), Reading, Central New Jersey (CNJ) and Lehigh Valley (LV) railroads.

Taken from my latest template the Milwaukee Coast Division, 2nd Sub, this one will also use a lot of railfill from one of the downloads containing low-poly strings of cars. I will try to balance use of these strings to have a higher railfill while having a reasonable performance.

Because of the massive workload ahead and number of sidings ( 2500+), the entire template package is expected to be a series of multiple template projects. That means that such templates will need starting from scratch every time. An example is the marking of all serviceable sidings before making the track database files. That will be done each time a new railroad ( or new area within the same railroad) is started. Of course, not all sidings will become serviceable but will try to have at many as possible. As with the Conn River template, boxcars is expected to occupy around 75% of the rolling stock as the mid to late fifties seem to have this proportion of boxcars.

I am starting with the shortest railroads and keep the PRR last among the projects.

I am happy to present pictures of the first finished template of this project, here the Lehigh Valley Oak Island Yards template ( and the only one for the LV). It consists of exchange of cars between the Oak Island Yards (West and East yards) and the Greenville Yard. The Oak Island Yard is actually two yards bearing the same name and also some of the sidings. In this project, I have identified them separately as the Oak Island West and East Yards. Now about the Greenville Yard: although it has been under PRR ownership, it seems that the LV has access to the yard sidings. The North track across the bridge between Oak Island and the Greenville yard is LV trackage while the South track across the same bridge is PRR-run.

The Greenville Yard contains about 40 sidings (see picture below).

Greenville Yard by Denis Gionet, sur Flickr

However, only half of them are being used to maximize performance that wouldn't be possible if filling all sidings with high-poly railcars used for servicing. The 20 serviceable sidings have been carefully spreaded throughout the yard while many of the others have been railfilled with low-poly cars. The result has been very good using the railfill setting to 5 with around 500 cars, not including the string of low-polys as railfill. Traffic is present also in the template project as you will see in 2 of the shots.

The pictures will be shown in the next post

I now expect to focus the next project on the Reading railroad which has 2 areas I can work. The first area is between the Camden Yards and Atlantic City. The second is between Doylestown and near the Reading terminal, in Philly.

More later as it develops

Hello to all,

Finally, working on the Reading templates are over. Eight (8) templates have been created. Two (2) are mainline NB & SB templates bewteen the Camden Yards (Philadelphia) and Atlantic City. Two (2) are passenger cars switching templates (PRR and RDG) in Atlantic City.

One depicts freight switching in the Camden Yards. The remaining three (3) are local runs between Philadelphia (Columbia ave Yard) and Lansdale/West Trenton and between Lansdale and West Trenton.

Like the previous LV template, strings of low-poly cars have been used to add some eye candy in areas where unnamed sidings are located.

Here are shots from some template activities that have been created:

I have already started working on the next set of templates, this time for the CNJ (New Jersey Central). The areas identified as CNJ trackage has been between Jersey City and Elizabethport, then South to Bay Head via Matawan and Red Bank. From Matawan another branch reaches the Atlantic Highlands area. Another area is between Broad Street station (Newark) and Elizabethport. The last line is between Red Bank and Winslow Junction.

Hello to all,

Work on the Central New Jersey (CNJ) Templates is now over!

The total number of templates count is now 23: 1 for the LV, 8 for the Reading and 14 for the CNJ.

For the CNJ, there are 2 mainline (SB&NB) templates between Jersey City/Elizabethport and Bay Head (with minimal pickups at some yards along the route), 2 mainline locals templates (same run than the mainlines but serving also local services where it is possible), 6 templates for each yard being worked (JerseyCity, E-Port, Bayway, Perth Amboy, Red Bank and Bay Head) and 4 smaller locals templates (Between E-port and Broad St. Yard, between Matawan and Atlantic Highlands and 2 Templates (NB&SB) between Red Bank and Winslow Jct)

Here are some shots from different templates

Will now be starting on the next set of templates, this time for the B&O. A lot more work ahead for this one Railroad but much less than the last one the PRR.

Hello to all,

Here are included shots from the first completed template for the B&O, that is the Northbound (NB) main template between Washington's Ivy City Yard and Philadelphia's Penrose Yard. It includes work only among the main yards along the run. The Yards that are being serviced are the Ivy City, Baltimore's Bayview, Wilmington's Wilsmere and Philadelphia's Penrose yards. On the oncoming SB main Yards run the Mt. Winans yard will be also part of the SB run since it cannot be accessed Northbound, only Southbound. On the first SLG generated NB run, an issue with one of the tank cars at MP 60 caused OR to crash. Retesting the route afterwards independtly on the same stretch went well all the way to Philly. It must have been an isolated issue.

A lot of work has been done to add string of cars to some of the main yards to add candy eyeview, mainly inside the Bayview and Wilsmere yards and adjusted the position of markers on many of the indistrial sidings.

Here are the shots:

PRR2image33 by Denis Gionet, sur Flickr

A lot of work ahead after the SB main run; locals, engine switching templates, etc....

Will post later as it advances

I want to tell you that these templates are looking *really* good. I am looking forward to exploring them. Thank you. You really have an eye for making realistic assemblies of cars.

Thanks Christopher,

You have probably noticed that among the downloads, one is the 1947 Boxcars you have created. About all the boxcars downloads used in the templates, I have tried to keep about the same ratio as done with the Conn River Template, since the timeframe is about the same, that is in the late fifties (50's). I am using also the latest string of cars (revised 2017) to add railfill and use a lot of the Boxcars strings to add to the unused sidings. The cars used in the strings blend in very well with the era.

And now to all,

Here are shots from the latest template, the GLENBURNIE Template. It services cars between Baltimore's B&O Bayview Yard and Glen Burnie with a return trip back to Baltimore.

On this successfull SLG-generated activity, the train services the industries in the Baltimore highlands area. No sidings were selected to work at Glen Burnie, only inside the Highlands area. On this one the train had to service first the SB oriented sidings. Once done, the train used adjacent tracks to reverse the train and service the NB oriented sidings and back to Baltimore.

The shots.
