Glad to see the "1947" boxcar set getting used - I made that with the PRR specifically in mind. It was basically all cars photographed on the PRR at Harrisburg in 1947 that didn't make it into the BLWZT PRR4 set.

According to THE POSTWAR FREIGHT CAR FLEET, boxcars represented 36-39% of the fleet in 1947, Hopper cars were 27% (covered hoppers, included in that number were less than 1%), Gondolas 12-16% (would be on the low end for PRR because many gondolas were used by Western coal roads instead of hoppers), tank cars 5-7%, Reefers 7-13%, stock cars 3%, and flat cars 1-3%.

By the late fifties, covered hoppers had increased in number but there were very few grain covered hoppers yet.

Glen Burnie was not a B&O branch, but was the Baltimore & Annapolis Railroad. They ran with a 70 Tonner. I cannot seem to find one in the file library.

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

I have applied the same % numbers as close as possible to the templates where it is applicable.

As for the Glen Burnie template, Pete used the B&O RR to have one template made for this area. There is a Trains Magazine chart on the B&O network around the 50's, which I have used to establish the areas applicable for the B&O templates. Also looked at Pete's templates to make sure I don't drift away too much from Pete's allocated areas for each Railroad.

Another issue regarding the 70-tonner. In the Baltimore highlands area, some areas have around 2.5% grades, which reminded me of the same issue encountered on the Springfield Terminal RR template done with the Conn River templates. There if I recall, the grades was around 4-5% in one area. I have to manually change the HP rating to have it pull at least 5 cars to/from Springfield. If I would use a 70-tonner, I believe the number of cars to be brought at/from Glen Burnie would be very limited.

Let me know if any findings that would be useful for the project.

Thanks

Hi to all,

Construction of the B&O Templates are now complete! The number of completed templates has now reached Thirty-Eight (38). That means that all non-PRR railroads templates are now done: that is, the LV, RDG, CNJ and B&O. I am considering two packages for the whole template project. One for the non-PRR templates and the second for the remaining PRR template package.

As for the B&O templates, they include 2 mainline SB & NB (main yards only), 2 mainline locals ( SB & NB ), 5 templates depicting exchange of cars between the B&O and PRR Yards. The first is between the Eckington and the Ivy City Yards. The second is between the Ivy City and the PRR Benning Yards. The third is between the Penn Mary and the B&O Bayview/PRR Bayview Yards. The fourth is between the Wilsmere and the PRR Wilmington Yards. The fifth is between the Penrose and Eastside Yards. There is one servicing the locomotives at the Wilsmere Engine shops area. Also two templates servicing the Philadelphia and Baltimore Piers. And finally the last three are locals servicing the East Avalon, Glen Burnie and the Shepherd Sub locations from their designated yards.

Here are fifteen images from the different SLG-generated activities.

Now that the non-PRR templates are done, I will start focusing now of the most difficult part of the whole project, the PRR. I will start working on the non-electrified trackage between Marysville and Pittsburgh, first between Marysville and Altoona and once done, between Altoona and Pittsburgh.

Will be updating later.

Hi to all,

Work has started on the PRR Templates and am happy to share shots from the first two templates, one of them is a first for me on this kind of template.

The first template focuses on the WB mainline non-electrified line between Altoona and Marysville. However, I have included both the Harrisburg and the enormous Enola Yards as starting points for Westbound runs to Altoona. At both yards, the activity starts entering both yards with GG-1 electric engines and the user will have to swap engines from Electric to Diesel. The replacing diesel engines that will replace the electric ones will be along the main path to allow this exchange. From there, the rest of the run to Altoona will be done on Diesel power. The only yards allowed to pickup/setout cars along the run will be at Marysville, Lewiston, Huntingdon and finally Altoona.

I have taken a lot of time to add low-poly strings of cars to have, to a certain point, well filled rail yards at Enola, Harrisburg, Marysville and finally Altoona. As it will be tested more deeply, I may proceed with adjustments if necessary.

Here are the shots from the first template:

The second template involves exchange of diesel engines inside the Altoona shops.

Working with locomotives is not a first for me but servicing engines with two (2) fully functional turntables is. Vince has done a worderful job making them functional. That is why this oncoming route must be run on Open Rails. It consists of exchanging engines between the roundhouse/ engine storage sidings and the engine shops. There are two shops in Altoona; the first is Juniata and the second is Altoona West. At Lewiston, you will be able to exchange engines to the shops but without any roundhouse or turntable.

One issue I have encountered: using the F6 key to view the sidings to be serviced ended with crashes. I have no idea what could be causing that. I have not encountered this issue elsewhere. Could it be related with the turntables? I may try to get in touch with Elvas tower with this issue at Altoona.

Here are shots from one section of the activity working on the first two operations at Juniata, that is swapping from the shops one engine to be transferred inside the roudhouse.

Hi Greg,

Following the PRR-2 route release in April, some changes were made to the route I have received last December, which needed some changes to the template and have it ready to be released. Changes were minimal for part 1 (non PRR railroads) and has been ready for release.

However, I have received, a few weeks ago, from Rick Franzosa (BLW/ZT) news that he is working on updating the PRR-1 passenger pack textures (one of the downloads required) since the pack has been released more than 10 years ago. The oncoming update will also include correction on some incorrect numbers on some of the engines. That will affect some consists used in part 1 and also loose ones.

I am waiting for Rick's updated pack before making corrections to the template package and release after. That is the reason I have to hold back the template part 1 release. I don't expect important changes to part 1 but will be needed before releasing.

I have done barely a few templates for the part 2 package (PRR railroad) and will require major changes compared to part 1.

Will be posting as it develops.

Hi to all,

Following an update from Rick Franzosa from (BLW/ZT) regarding the update to the PRR-1 passenger pack, no changes will be made to some of the numbers that were originally planned to be changed, only the textures will be changed. That means that no changes will be required to some of the consists and the PRR-2 part 1 template package can now be uploaded to the templates page. In addition to the part 1 package, I will make available later, on request, the first three templates from part 2. The first two are WB & EB mainline runs between Harrisburg/Enola and Altoona. The last one is the LOCO template, as seen on my latest posts with pictures on the activity.

At the time of this post, I have encountered an important issue with MSTS/OR a few days ago. While working on an activity, all the markers have stopped showing on the Activity Editor, not only on this specific Train Simulator Folder, but all on my mini routes. On the ACT file, the markers are all present inside the ACT file. I am currently looking up for the reason behind this issue. If any clues on your side, It would be much appreciated. I am at a deadstop now.

Will be writing to Steve for the oncoming uploading of part 1.

Thanks

Hi again,

Just to confirm that the template package (part 1) has been sent to Steve for uploading to the templates page. Will confirm once uploaded.

In the meantime, the issue I have encountered on my earlier post has been resolved by re-installing MSTS. Everything is OK now.

Hi Harlank,

I haven't received any news from Steve since my last E-mail to him. He is often outside for a long time before replying.

Pending his oncoming reply, I will send, upon request and by e-mail the template package until its official uploading to the templates page.

You can request the PRR2 part 1 template package at photoman_57 [at] hotmail [dot] ca

Thanks

Hello to all,
I have received the green light from Benny to make available the first three PRR templates from the PRR-2 part 2 package. Thanks again Benny!

Those interested to get it are invited to get in touch with me ( see previous post for the E-mail address )

Since, I have completed 5 additional templates, two EB and WB locals between Enola/Harrisburg/Marysville and Altoona and done three yard exchange templates between the Enola/Harrisburg/Marysville yards.

I will start now additional templates depicting switching inside the main yards for each of the 4 yards above.

Hi to all,

Just to confirm the section between Harrisburg/Enola and Altoona is now complete. 14 templates have been done on that section. That bring the total template count to 53.

I am stepping back temporarily from the PRR-2 template project to work on two other routes: the updated SALv3 template project and one on the newly released FJ&G v2 route.

Will be posting on those on oncoming posts.
