Hi to all,
Following a request by one of our users, I have considered one route that has not been worked before. I have seen it before but never came to work on it: Steve Dunham's Washington & Western (WW) route. In the earlier years, I have worked templates on some of his excellent routes, such as the Blue Comet, Washington & Old Dominion (WOD) and 2 for the RF&P (versions 2&3) routes. I was aware of the challenges this route would bring in working a template project. One example is because of the length of the route and the absence of main yards on the WW, I have made the town of Winchester (mid-point of the route) a central point by creating two sidings (a mini yard) that would made Winchester a stopover and crew change. Also at Winchester are interchanges with the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) and the Pennsylvania railroad (PRR). Also part of the route will be the Norfolk & Western (N&W) which has some trackage as well at Berryville and from Piedmont to Keyser. The timeframe will be the mid-fifties (50's). All rolling freight stock has been chosen not to exceed 40 feet in length. To accomodate the timeframe, I have added some additional locos with the project: two WW Trainmasters (#44 & 46) with the two (2) Steve have included with his route. One WW RS-1 will be part of the package (a modified ACE and ENG files for one of the downloads). As for the previous, I have made a WW caboose, slightly shorter in length than the one Steve has provided due to some challenges it would have created, working the Alexandria area because of the wye, making the return home. Part of the diesels included will be mostly FM-24-66's (from the WW, N&W and PRR), one WW RS-1, one B&O 44 tonner, a couple of B&O Geeps, two WW RDC's and one WW Doodlebug (part of the route package). Also included will be some passenger heavyweights from the B&O for some passenger consists. Not to forget one 25-tonner, purchased by the Ogden Feed Store network, working inside the Ogden Feed facilities in Vienna. A lot of head scratching and extensive work has been done, adding and renaming sidings along the entire route to maximize its potential. I have finished all the templates last night, 18 of them. Some are long, others are very short (as short as 15 minutes). I will start testing the entire project and in the meantime here are twenty (20) shots from different templates created: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The remaining ones on the next post -------------------- Denis Gionet
