Hi to all,

I am still waiting for Teemu's news to resume the Buffalo template.

In the meantime,I have started looking into building a template package for the Blue Comet route. The sidings are well marked to have one done. It is a very picturesque route for those who enjoys seaside scenery and there are a lot of bridges, some very long to cross.

Most of the trackage is owned by the Central of New Jersey RR (or CNJ) while some parts are operated by the Pennsylvania RR (PRR), that is between Seaside Park to Whitings, from Sea Girt to Farmingdale and also from Winslow Jct to Atlantic City. The last section was confirmed by looking at Craig's PRR-Eastern route map, which includes the Atlantic City to Winslow Jct line.

Selection of the proper rolling material and timeframe has been difficult. There is very little CNJ and PRR material in Train-Sim. It has been decided to use the BLW/ZT CNJ Freight set (payware) as the main download. It is by far the best set for the template. There are fourteen (14) additional downloads, all from TS including PRR GP9's and PRSL Baldwin AS16's to rum the passenger train (Ai traffic) between Atlantic City and Winslow Jct. I have seen images (railpictures.net) of passenger trains with an AS16 as lead engine at Atlantic City in 1954. Passenger trains in this section were operated by the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines RR (PRSL), a joint venture between both the PRR and the Reading RR's.

With all this in mind, it has been decided to set the timeframe around 1955 since the most recent locomotives on the roster are the CNJ's RSD4's and the PRR GP9's which were introduced respectively in 1952 and 1954. All the selected freight is no longer than 40ft long, which is quite relevant of this era. They include boxcars, tankers, coal gondolas, stock, lumber, scrap, ballast and hopper cars.

If some of you are interested to test the package once done, let me know.

I have done some exploration and here's some teaser shots of the route to enjoy.

So, it looks good to go for a template unless the Buffalo route gets some development to resume its construction.

Thanks Chris,

One detail I have forgotten to report on my previous mail. There is a small of section near Perth Amboy belonging to the Lehigh Valley (LV) RR. There are about a dozen of serviceable sidings. That means that at least two additional downloads will be required. To service these areas, the engineer will have to move his load backwards and do his work.

Here's a shot of the two pieces of stock, a NW2 and a caboose to serve the area, taken at the LV interchange tracks.

Will update later

Looks great! Having lived along the CNJ main line I can hardly wait for this one. Alas, now living in Florida, we have nothing south of Sarasota anymore and CSX in Sarasota on occasion. Do not get in any train watching the past 20 years except an occasional trip on Amtrak.

Hi to all,

Marking of all the sidings has been done. I was surprised to discover that the number of serviceable sidings estimated at more than 200 (according to the Route Specification forum at TS) was in reality 425 sidings and 101 regions. The TDB file had been done and have worked templates starting at Jersey City or Elizabethport. Traffic wise, I have encountered a problem for the NB AI train. All Ai trains stopped at Sewaren and I couldn't figure why. I was able to overcome the issue by making a crossover to the SB track just before and to crossover again to NB once past Sewaren. That solved the issue.

Templates expected are the SB, NB for the CNJ. Also local templates for all three railroads (CNJ, PRR and LV) That one is expected to be the most extensive of all templates since they will have multiple paths and, in hope, with return paths in some areas (PRR and LV). I will look for YARDS templates if someting can be done too.

Here are some shots of the the Main SB. From Jersey City or Elizabethport, there are only setouts or pickups at Matawan, Red Bank, Long Branch and finally Bay Head. From these locations, the LOCALS are expected to cover all the other regions. That one will be a more extensive template package.

Enjoy the shots and will update later

Hello to all,

I have finished the CNJ SB.NB Mainline templates, the LV and the PRR LOCALS templates. During construction, I have discovered that the section between Whitings and Tuckerton belongs to the PRR. Both the CNJ and the PRR are beside one another between Barnegat and Wareton Jct and then splits up North. The remaining templates will be the longest to build, that is the CNJ locals. I will try to cover as possible the remaining untouched sections.

The LV covers the LV line at Perth Amboy. The PRR covers from Farmingdale to Sea Girt, from Whitings to Seaside Park, to Tuckerton and finally from Winslow Jct to Atlantic City. All have return paths. All, except the LV, will see AI traffic. The PRR crosses the CNJ at Whitings, Beachwood and Farmingdale. Train meets have been successfull at all three intersections, as you will see in the next screenshots. Such meets are part of the templates.

I will be probably sending later to my testers for testing the currently finished templates while I will be working on the final CNJ LOCALS templates. Once fnished, I will be sending them the updates to complete the package and the testing.

In the meantime, here are the shots as promised:

Meet at Whitings

Meet at Beachwood

Meet at Farmingdale

Hi again,

The templates has been finished and testing started about a week ago. Ted and Benny have been helping a hand with the testing.

Corrections were made to scrap one tanker car, believed to be a frame killer. Also the TDB files were streamlined to only keep the sidings necessary to have a reasonable railfill in addition to those used for servicing. I suspect the large number of sidings and those whose are not in the path area to be responsible for crashng many times my PC, a dual-core. In addition to lowering graphic sliders, I have changed on my own PC the ACleantrack files for less demanding ACleantrack files. Also, I have reduced the railfill from 500 to about 350 cars. That helped with the performance.

I have also found out that the Bay head to Seaside Park line actually belongs to the PRR and not the CNJ. Major work has been done to change everything, from paths to the TDB files the PRO files, etc.

I have corrected a incorrect trainset folder name also to use the same name as the zip file folder.

A detailed readme file has been done and is being updated with the latest information as testing progresses

Also have found a mistake that have associated the Keswick Grove region with a siding located in Lakehurst. That has been corrected too.

Some additional images from a successfull activity ( a very simple one) for the Locals between Matawan and Long Branch passing along the ocean line. The images are taken between Highlands and Long Branch. It is among the most picturesque areas of the route. On this one the train will be backing up and set the load a mile back to the Long Branch Yards to end the activity.

Will continue testing and more later,

Hi to all,

Ted and Benny are continuing their testing and bringing me their reports. Some changes are being done as the reports come in.

Have done successfully a CNJ Locals template from Winslow Jct to Red Bank with work in Lakehurst, Lakewood and Farmingdale with Red Band Yard 3 as final destination.

It will be important and suggested to save your act, toggle your signalling to permissive mode and reload when about to work in an area. Back and forth movements through signals may make one signal turn red and remain red. Once the work done and have left your area for the next assignment, make sure to restore the signalling to its original state to allow successfull meets

Included are shots between Lakehurst and Red Bank with two of them as meets at Lakehurst and Farmingdale

Here are shots from a simple CNJ locals run to pickup some cars at the Tufts yard 1 to bring them in the Elizabethport yard 1 siding

The path has been made short to allow better access to the sidings but toggling to permissive signalling will be recommended to work the area. You may have to turn the switch back and forth to have your STOP signal change to STOP AND or simply use the TAB button to ask permission to the dispatcher to proceed ahead. At the Tuft yards, some unusual maneuvering has been done to have front end protection (see first shot) to allow putting the caboose to the back for the return home. It took about 45 minutes to complete the activity.

Just before entering your final destination to the Elizabethport yards, you will have to ask permission before entering to end the activity.

Such details were added in the readme file

Additional shots from a CNJ local between Red Bank and Bay Head. Everything went well until reaching Belmar. After working Sterner's lumber, I couldn't pickup the remaining load because of signalling issues, despite putting the end load between the signal and the switch. It was the closest to the switch but was too close from the signal, thus generating an end to the activity, despite toggling the signalling and switching respectively to permissive and manual. I couldn't finish the act because of this issue.

Here's the scenario in AE

That means that Sterner's lumber will be scrapped from any work. It will be there only for eye candy purposes. This change actually affects only the CNJ LOCALS SB. This solved!

At Asbury Park, Asbury Park siding 2 has a sharp curve and will require extra throttle to bring your load inside and out. I have found out that some of the cars were assigned with wrong car types. Some of the Coal cars were labelled BX instead of CL. It ended seeing coal cars in some sidings where only boxcars were to be seen. All the SWLACT files were corrected with the proper car labelling.

Some of the screenshots of work at Little Silver, Asbury Park and Bradley beach.

Overall, testing is going well and receiving good news from both Ted and Benny with successfull acts.

Will get back with more updates

Additional shots from a successfull act on the small LV section at Perth Amboy. The cars to be picked up (see pics 4 to 6) are located on the farthest sidings away from the interchange yard. The player will require to switchback twice before reaching the cars to be worked.

Here are shots of a successfull local from Ft Monmouth to the Leonardo Navy depot. Five cars to bring there and five others to bring back to Ft Monmouth. It took more than 2 hours to complete. It has multiple reverse points and all went well. At Branchport the train must back up his load, reverse to the line and crossover the mainline over and resume the run to Leonardo. The same applies to the return trip.

If I am not wrong, there has been nine (9) reverse points. The first to back up to pick up the load, the second to move to the mainline and move forward. The third and fourth is to use the Branchport line to reach the navy depot. The fifth to enter the line to the depot. The sixth to exit the depot. The seventh and eighth to exit the Branchport line to the mainline. The final one is to enter the Ft Monmouth yards as final destination.

The first ten (10) shots out of twenty (20)

The next ten (10) to come on the next post

Hi to all,

It has been about three weeks since testing began and after the many reports Ted and Benny gave me over I feel comfortable to have it released in the next few days. I am awaiting the final go ahead to proceed with uploading the package to Steve.

I have added an additional path between Jersey City and the Bayonne area for the CNJ LOCALS template. An eighth template in the package has also been created (YARDS), depicting yard work inside Bay Head and also at Elizabethport. The player trains for the YARDS template are two S2's

Some additional shots from the CNJ locals template at Matawan (1-4), Jersey City (5-6), Bayonne (7th) and the last two from the newly YARDS template at Elizabethport.

Will update later.

Hi to all,

I have received the green from both Ted and Benny to release the package. It has been sent earlier to Steve for uploading to the templates page.

Thanks again to Benny and Ted for their precious help with the testing. It has been a challenging template to make and also to test.

Here's the template image to be seen in the templates page

Will confirm once available in the templates page.

Hi to all,

One of our users (Dave K) has noticed that on the CNJSB Template, both paths ( From Jersey City and Elizabethport) leading to Bay Head lead to dead end sidings inside the Bay Head Yards. Just before entering the Bay Head Yards, the player train must switch to the NB track to enter the Bay Head Yard and access all other sidings. That issue has been noticed after making the template but have not made the correction.

You will find as an attachment the corrected player paths to replace the ones on the BC route PATHS folder.

I will send to Steve an updated template to include the corrections.
