Hello,

I love freight train switching. Never in my life ever thought I would be making my own activities. I just have started using Activity Generator and have made about 5 . All 5 have only car pickups, no set outs. I have left the max. cars to set out at 5. Is there something I am missing to get car set outs? Maybe I missed something in the manual. Maybe it is my age. 83 Thanks

First, which template are you using?

Second, although AG has a randomizer for each pick up and set out location, and thus it is possible to have no set outs, it is highly unlikely to occur in an activity, and even less likely to happen in five! Consequently, I would like to know what the other parameters have been set to? What is the beginning train length? What tracks did you choose for work? Did you select work outside the first region? Are the other functions working, like world car fill?

Third, could you please generate another activity, and this time select the diagnostic report button at the lower left. This will generate a report which will allow Steve to quickly diagnose what is happening. Find the report, and then post it here for our review. The file is called SLGDiag.txt and will be in the main AG folder.

Please bear with us as we work with you to help solve this. Steve has created a wonderful tool in AG, and it works well. We have many users who are just as fascinated by switching activities as you are (I am a fanatic!), and I am certain that you will really like this software once we get past this little hitch.

Norman,

I will try and do as you requested. May not get at it today. I am surprised I have been able to do as much as I have so far. Thanks

Bert,

83 and creating activies?!! I am impressed, good for you!! In case you haven't tried this, be sure and select a track near the beginning of the path as a "source" track, or, start with cars already in your train (by changing the "max cars in player train" to a number greater than zero). Then make sure the other tracks you select to work are from the middle box, 'Work' or 'Industry' tracks. Then you should get setouts. Let me know if you do.

If not I can help you live on line. I want to see this work for you, you are already doing great!

Thanks for trying our program and for writing,

Steve

OK, looks like everything is working now. I am working on Ohio Rail with upgrade. All towns. The 1st 2 had only pu and the ones I made on other routes had only pu. I made 3 more acts. and all 3 have pu and so. I did everything the same as before. Apparently the software determines whether the cars are so or pu. That is fine with me. This is my type of work orders. A couple I made are 5 printed pages long. Not like the 1/2 hour activities.

I now make prints of the wo when it pops up during the process. It prints great with my printer. Much better print than the other act. printer I was using. Is there a way to bring up the wo to print it, in case I forgot to print during the process? Looks like I have something to keep me busy during the winter months. Thanks

Bert,

Now that is my kind of activity! I am forever puzzled by the large number of activities in the t-s file library where all you do is take a train from point A to point B, and you are done in 30 minutes. Keep at it!!!

Norm,

I really think it is because most people are intimidated by or don't know how to use the Activity Editor. (Thank you Steve for creating Activity Generator!!) I've also run across people who really don't want to switch cars. That I don't understand since switching is where the fun is. One of my best activities ran about 5 hours long and contained time events, dispatcher orders, location events, assemble train events, plenty of traffic, and a few switching puzzles. It actually took me a few weeks of time to get it all to work!
