Hi Steve, I downloaded version 1.5.10. Checked for the debug file and changed the player locomotives. Then I went to replace the cars. As you suggested, I was setting up so my selections were from the specific list this time. As soon as I clicked the button for "Set up replacement list" I encountered the Run-Time error '6' Overflow message again. It never got to open the list and AM closed. I thought I would try one more thing. I use Rolling Stock Groups when modifying activities that I upload. I have at least, one car for each type the I have defined along the way. This way I can minimize the number of downloads someone whould have to do. I made one of my groups the current stock group. Went in set up my player engines and then opened the window for my specific list selections. I left the slider still at the left to replace only the cars that were not on my drive. The time I was able to make selections from my list. After proceeding to let AM make the changes, I got message 1. I'm not sure why since I had selected a drivable engine to replace it. I had removed the AI engines from my list. I was also using the specific list function. Now I thought I would try it again, except this time change all the cars and locos to my choosing. I went and selected the group from the car list, move the slider all the way to the right and selected the specific list option on both known and unknow stock. I got the same message and AM stopped the replacement. The only difference was AM allowed me to set up a replacement list while using one of my groups. I could not while letting AM make the selections. Once again, I got the same message for the locomotive, even though I had made a selection of my choosing for it. I have inclued some screen shots and the debug files which I have emailed to you. There wasn't enough space to upload it here. Jim On the locomotive, I saw that message, it usually means AM doesn't "know" that's a locomotive. Did you try going into the "Show All" or "ID Unknowns" and set the "type" for that to DIESEL? The run time error really does seem to be based on the amount of rolling stock, since you don't get it when you reduce your rolling stock group. I am not able to duplicate it here but then again I don't have the same rolling stock list you have. I am going to try and troubleshoot this using your rolling stock if I can. Then I KNOW I can solve this. Thanks for your reports and patience. I will give you specific instructions in a private email to you. Thanks and sorry about the problems, Steve -------------------- Steve Davis

Hi Everybody,
I'm new to this product (purchased AG and AM 5/08) and forum, and I'm hoping I'm not bringing up a problem that has obvious solution that I may have over-looked. I've viewed the Tutorials for AM, and thought I had a decent understanding of it, but I am very new on the AM learning-curve. I was trying to replace all of the rollingstock on the EB Manifest activity on the SLI Seligman route. I, too, received the "Run Time Error 6 Overflow" message, which closed me out of AM. My "trainset" folder is pretty large (1,000+/- engines; 2,000+/- cars), and I do use ConBuilder. What steps can I take to get passed this? Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

Hi, Steve
I too have received the "Run Time Error 6 Overflow" message, in the last few months first with the Sal route and just recently with TPII. With the SAL I was changing the tropicana act. to more modern cars when I got this message. On the TPII act. I had changed the cars on it some time back and it worked fine then. This time I went into AE and added a consist to the act. and then tried to use AM and got the message. Had to revert the act. back to it's orginal state to get to work. Btw when I opened the tropicana act. all the sidings were flooded with cars. The TPII act. was Teha_Day 3. which I got at TS. Dave |

Any help/advise on this "Run-time error 6" problem would be greatly appreciated! Please see my post from above. My apologies for a lack of response. Steve will need to help with this. His daughter is getting married this weekend, so he has been pre-occupied with that event for most of the last several weeks. Please give him a chance to catch up -- probably next week, after the wedding??? -------------------- Norman

No problem, I fully understand. Even though I'm new to this product, I've found Steve to be a great guy to work with. Hope all goes well for the bride!

Curt, Regrettably, I know of no simple answer. I myself never get this run time error so I still haven't figured out why some users do. Here are some suggestions, perhaps you have already done this:

I have received a couple of reports from users that they will see a Run-time error 6 when trying to replace rolling stock using Activity Master. I have never seen this error or caused it to occur. However I've seen it on other people's machines, and it is nearly always caused by a file or file structure error in the user's \TRAINSET folder. Our suggestion is to run Conbuilder or RouteRiter, both excellent and in my opinion "Must have" utilities, to check all the rolling stock files first, before using Activity Master to replace. I will continue to try and hunt down this elusive run-time error and come up with a better way for Activity Master to dea with it or a better more informative error message, however so far every time I have seen this it has been curable by using Route Riter or ConBuilder. Some users have reported this on only one route. In that case it's generally because the user is using TrainStore (which I use and also highly recommend), and, when the rolling stock giving the problems is "stored" (because the route is stored) then the problems go away, and when that rolling stock is unstored the problems appear. If you DO get this error please post to this forum, I want to track it down. I'll want to know what route and what activity you were working on. Thanks, Steve Hi Steve, I'm having a problem with AM it wouldn't let change out the rolling in an act. Keeps giving me Run-time error 6 overflow and shuts down. The act. is MT Intermodal, it is part of V3actpk1 which is in the TS. library. I had problems moving the consists, act, paths, services and traffic into the TS. XP kept saying there was something wrong with the compressed file. Then I got a error something wrong with a car or engine no. when using AM. After I idenified a couple of car types and replace them AM wouldn't let change anything after that just kept giving me the run 6 thing. Something real funny, it kept losing the shape viewer every time I use it from then on. I went into AE and found a service consist that was missing it's two engines which btw AE said it couldn't read. I fixed that and that took care of the error messsages and I can run the act. okay. But AM still wouldn't let me in to change anything still get the run 6. but the shape viewer is lit back up now. This act. is for the FBL. Hope you can find the problem. Dave |

If so I have not yet received them, sorry. I am working on yet another update with help from Joe Smith (Joe Bandit on this forum) which has enhanced error checking built in. I may have that ready for you to check out this weekend. Thanks also to Joe for the help! For those who don't know Joe, he is the Senior Programmer for ConBuilder. I checked to see if I still had them, but I think I deleted them already. I still have the activities that I had trouble with though. I'd be more than willing to give it a run. Jim |

Are you saying other routes/activities work ok for you but you have problems with this specific route or activity, only? Thanks, Steve Steve, I didn't have any trouble with any specific route. My problem arose when an activity had many cars/locos to change out due to not having the items on my drive. I seem to recall it was when the activity had more than 300 replacements. I think this goes back to when I sent you some items on your flash drive that you had mailed to me. Jim |

Jim, Thanks, I will investigate the limit. Regards, Steve Steve, I just saw this today (09/20/20080 at TS posted by Mike Simpson. ("Run time error 6 overflow is a programming error. The programmer did not provide a variable of a type large enough to hold a calculation using the parameters from your rolling stock. I have had plenty of these in route_Riter, so nice to see someone else gets them as well :-)" per Mike Simpson.) Jim |

Although I understand what causes this error (a value larger than what the variable can hold, or a different type than the variable will hold), I don't know exactly where it is happening. I can easily figure it out by stepping through the code with a debugger, but first, I have to have the same problem on my machine. That usually means using at least the exact same route and activity as the user was using when the problem occurred. I appreciate your posting this. Whenever I have a problem like that here, I post an update. But when others have it, I have to first figure out what variable it is that's overflowing, and why. So to all who have this, the more info you can give me, the better. What route, what activity, etc. Thanks! Steve -------------------- Steve Davis
