I am very new to AG. In fact I am trying to complete my first one so this could be operator error. Here is what I have determined.
I have the Cascade Crossings Route and I have downloaded the template. When I start the AG I tell it I want the WB file. It loads that fine and I get to the screen where all the choices are made. Some of the decisions work just fine when I click OK to generate the activity I get a screen to give it a name. At other times when I click generate I get a Run Time Error 13 Type Mismatch. I have been playing with this and here is what I have found.
The path I choose is Crescent Lake to Klamath.
On the top right I choose the Crescent Lake, Mowich, Gilchrest locations for pick ups.
In the middle right I choose Chemult, Diamond Lake and Lenz as working locations.
On the bottom right I can choose anything else except Chiloquin or Wocus. The minute I do I either get the run time error immediately or when I click the OK to generate button?
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I ran Activity Master on the template and it stated I was short 4 cars. I had Activity Master replace those four cars.
Anyway, this has me puzzled...thanks
I have investigated this and I know what the issue is. You cannot select Chiloquin or Wocus for work because there are no sidings in those regions. That is why there is no "+" sign to the left of the region name. If you check Chiloquin or Wocus as Work Tracks, you'll be ok until you click "Ok - Generate Activity" -- at which time you will get Error 13. On the other hand, if you check either of those regions as Destination Tracks, you will get Error 13 immediately, becuase when selecting Destination tracks the program calculates the car capacity of all selected tracks, and since there are no tracks there, it can't calculate the number of cars that will fit.
These regions (the ones with no workable tracks in them and thus no "+" symbol to the left of the region names) are regions where cars will be placed for you to see as you run the route, but which don't contain any spurs that can be reached or worked using the selected path and/or template.
Especially if you are selecting source or destination tracks, I highly recommend using the "+" to expand out the list of spurs in the region, and then check only certain tracks. For destination tracks, it probably isn't realistic to end your run by setting out cars anywhere in the ending region. More likely you would need to tie up your train in a yard, so you would want to select one or more specific yard tracks as the final destinaiton for your train.
This is a known issue that was discovered with a template for the soon to be released PRR route, so we have developed a fix that will cause regions that can't be worked, to NOT show up in the list of regions that can be checked. Our beta testers are testing that fix now and provided they don't report any problems with it, I will post it as an update in the next day or so.
In the meantime the fix is pretty simple: don't call for work in any regions that don't have a "+" sign to the left of their names, because, that means that there are no tracks in that region that can be worked. And, while it is not required, I DO encourage users to expand out the list of tracks in the regions you will work, ESPECIALLY if selecting Source or Destination tracks, so that you can tell Activity Generator exactly what tracks to build your train from, and end up the run at.
I'm sorry it took me so long to figure this one out!
Happy trainsimming,
Steve
