having a problem with activity Generator,

Under "Customize your activity" I hit the button "change engines"

I get a

"reading trainset folders"

and " Please wait while activity reads the folders and files in your TRAINSET folder to determine what engines and tenders you have available."
I get one small bar in the progression but it never finishes, I even let it run for a couple hours, and it nevers finishes.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks

Ok it works with other routes just not the template for the default Marias pass route.

Thanks

That is curious.

Just to eliminate the obvious, are you using Activity Generator for the other routes but SwitchList Generator for the default Marias route?  Or are you using Activity Generator for both?

If both are Activity Generator (it has a more robust rolling stock read routine), the only way the routes might be different and thus cause a problem like this, would be if you use TrainStore.  While using TrainStore is perfectly ok (I use it all the time), it will cause different rolling stock to be available to you depending on what route is loaded.

So what's happening is, there is some .eng or .wag file that is stored when you run other routes, but not when you run the default marias pass route.  And the program is hanging up when reading that file.

I would LOVE to get to the bottom of this and figure out what it is about certain files that causes the program to hang up like that.  So, I have just posted an update to Activity Generator, version 3.1.2.  The only change is, it displays each file name as the program reads the files.  This will usually flash by too fast for you to read, but, if the program hangs up on a file, you'll be able to see what file that is.  Then, please e-mail that file directly to me at SteveDavis@skylinecomputing.com and I can use this to fix the program so it will be more tolerant of errors in .wag and .eng files, which will help all of our uses.

Thanks for your trouble report, I await your reply.

Best,

Steve

Hi Steve...

I ran 3.1.2 and found problems with 2 eng files...

WVOSW1500 & DASH9 (The MLT version NOT the MSTS default which I checked and was fine )

MSTS Tree Editor flagged both of these as having 'unmatched parenthesis'... A clue maybe?

Certainly this is a problem.  How do you fix it?  I am not sure.  Did "Tree Editor" show you the location of the missing parenthesis?

Actually, I know that an unmatched parenthesis is a problem, but don't know how to fix it.  For the Dash9 maybe you can compare the default Dash9 to the MLT Dash9, one for one, and find it.

Frascati

The MLT Dash9 has a completely different eng file.

The WVOSw1500 problem has been known about for some time and a fix is available for download (I believe at AVSIM but I may be wrong). Applying the fix got rid of the problem.

Tree Editor will Identify there is a problem but not where it is... I have in the past used jEdit (freeware unicode editor) which 'matches' parenthesis 'pairs'. It's tedious... sooooo....

In this case I simply deleted the MLT DASH-9 (as I never run it) and replaced it by the MSTS default (which is aliased to by many engines)

GREAT detective work!  Still I'd like to fix this so AG doesn't choke on files with those problems.  Would you mind e-mailing me the files that caused this problem, direct to me at SteveDavis@skylinecomputing.com?  This would be a huge help in making the program more bulletproof.

Thanks!
