Following a special request from Martin, a new South African user of AG, I have started last week a new template for South Africa's Namaqualand route. It is now finished and is in the testing phaze. Here are some details of the route and template.
South Africa’s Namaqualand Route starts south at Kraaifontein and ends North 190 miles further at Klawer. It is mainly a single track main line. The stretch of track between Graafwater and Klawer is a category 4 gradient (up to 1/36th or 2.7% grade in some areas). Climbing the grade will require a lot of sanding.
The SA_Namaqualand Template package has 56 serviceable sidings. It has both NB and SB templates and uses class 35 diesel locomotives. Maps of the 16 regions have been included indicating the marker’s orientation, which will help the user in determining the work to be done The main player engines are three Spoornet class 35 diesel engines. They have a combined output of 4650 hp of power and will be sufficient for pulling about 20 cars in graded areas. One interesting note: all paths start and end at Malmesbury. The geographical position and rail configuration of Malmesbury doesn’t allow a continuous line through. Use of the wye will be, in some cases, a must in handling cars in the area.
AI traffic is present in both templates, both passenger and freight, Also take note that to meet successfully AI trains on the single-track stretch, it is recommended to set the maximum of cars to handle at twenty (20) because of the limited length of some of the sidings used to meet oncoming traffic. Handling more may result in collision at the rear of your player train by the oncoming AI train. In order to perform your work, you will have to change the route’s signalling system to Permissive in order to enter and work inside your locations.
Here are some screenshots of the route
